1. Overview of Off-grid New Energy Military System

Due to the particularity of troops, they often need to be stationed or perform tasks in remote places for a long time, such as plateau border defense, island border defense and field military missions. These places usually do not have access to the grid because of poor living conditions, high grid construction costs and high maintenance costs. This will not only affect the daily life of garrisoned soldiers, but also greatly affect the army's information construction. PV led new energy can perfectly meet the military power demand in these scenarios. In recent years, many countries have been reducing their reliance on conventional energy. The role of new energy in the military is more and more important.

PV off-grid military system consists of PV module array, PV controller, control cabinet, battery, mounting bracket, cable and other equipment. Wind turbines, high-frequency switching power supply and oil-fired generators can be selected according to the field environment to ensure the power supply operation of military units in extreme weather.

2. Examples & Types of Off-grid PV Military System

(1) Types of PV Military Applications

Independent PV Power Supply

Only PV is used for power supply. It is mainly applied in remote areas without power supply, such as mountain areas and island border protection. This type of area requires large output power of PV array, which can meet all kinds of weather changes.

Mainly powered by solar energy and equipped with high-frequency switching power supply.

This way of power supply security level is higher. It is generally equipped with diesel generator as the backup power supply, which is suitable for the use of troops with higher information requirements.

Wind-solar Complementary Power Supply

It is mainly used in areas where wind and solar resources are good and power supply is poor. It can supply power to military bases by wind and solar energy at the same time or on a time-sharing basis to improve power supply reliability.

Portable Mobile PV Equipment

It is mainly applicable to the power supply in the field to meet the electricity requirements of portable communication equipment such as patrol radio, which can not only ensure the daily life electricity of field troops, but also ensure the troops' outdoor operations. This type of equipment is light, portable, noiseless and easily camouflaged.

(2) Examples of PV Military Applications

In October 2013, the first light-steel barracks in the Tibet military region with PV power generation reverse connected to the grid was accepted and put into use.

From 2014 to October 2015, the Chenniushan island, Dashan island and Pingshan island of Lianyungang border defense detachment in Jiangsu province also utilized distributed PV power generation to meet the electricity demand.

This has been demonstrated in several islands.According to an official from the Lianyungang island border defense force, the 30KW PV project on the island can generate 4,500 kilowatts of electricity per month, which can fully meet the working and living demand of officers and soldiers on the island.

3. Advantages of Off-grid PV Military System

(1) For the garrison of border and island defense, no extra cable is needed to set up, which greatly reduces the power cost of troops.

(2) Compared with diesel power generation, PV power generation is quiet and does not require continuous fuel support. It maximizes the safety, convenience and reliability of power supply for the troops.

(3) The system is durable and easy to maintain, greatly reducing the cost of electricity operation and maintenance for border garrison, island garrison, field mission and temporary garrison.
